Our History Unfolds

Founded in 1988, the Auckland Chinese Medical Association (ACMA) began with a group of 22 Chinese doctors dedicated to forming a supportive professional and cultural network. Since then, it has grown into a registered charity (2008) with a strong foundation in education, research, and community service.

ACMA has developed strong international and local connections, becoming a founding member of the Australasian Council of Chinese Medical Associations. It has hosted dignitaries including the Chinese Minister of Health and contributed to healthcare policy through submissions and collaborative events with other ethnic medical associations.

In 2002, ACMA launched Young ACMA (YACMA) to support student engagement and adapt to evolving healthcare and social landscapes. A website, digital communications, and a revised constitution followed, allowing ACMA to expand its reach and continue its mission of medical education and public health advocacy, especially through regular Chinese-language health talks.
